My Favorite Wedding Traditions

Some sweet traditions for the wedding day

There are so many amazing and wonderful things that happen during your special day. Loosely in order, these are a few of my favorite things.

Mom zipping up the dress. Or another special person in your life, a sister, aunt, grandma, cousin, or whoever helped raising you. This is so emotional and sweet. It is by far one of my favorite, intimate moments of a wedding day because it’s just you and someone very special before you go do first looks and really reveal your look for the day.

Private vows. How incredibly special to share the details of your “why.” Plus on a smaller stage (without your great-uncle and neighbor Melanie present), you’re able to really let go of some of those big emotions that come with a monumental life change. And who better to share that with than your new spouse?

Father/daughter mother/son dances. Oh boy, cue the waterworks. When I had my daughter, that father daughter dance took on a whole new meaning. I can’t think about it too hard, or I’ll think about how tough it must be to give away your baby.

Cake cutting. I’m a big cake fan, tiers and florals are my JAM. (See what I did there? Sometimes you can have a jam filling). Tenderly sharing a little bit of sweetness on your big day is beyond precious. Now, don’t smush the cake unless you and your honey have specifically discussed it and everyone is honestly okay with it.

Send off. Sparklers, bubble, flower petals, rice, or even your guests’ phone lights. No matter what you pick, it’s so fun to have a big portion of your guest list send you off on your next adventure.

Honeymoon. You probably already know I’m obsessed with traveling. I’ve been to over half of the US states and 7 countries (and counting). I will always try and convince you to take a trip with your honey, even if it’s just a small one.

Enjoying yourself. This one belongs at the top, middle, and end of this list. Your wedding day should be fun and enjoyable no matter what. No tears, unless they’re happy tears. Love each other, communicate, and travel 🙂
